Transportation Manager (Grade 18 - MGR III), Jessup, MDPosition
Summary:
Responsible for managing a brand centric transportation team, of 200
drivers, to deliver fresh and dry goods to our retail stores with a focus of on-time delivery.
Support strategic direction, for a brand centric transportation network within the supply chain model with a focus on execution, process implementation, and initiatives that align with company goals.
Will collaborate with other functional areas, e.
g.
, Giant Food team members, shared services, SC operations, Vendors, Government agencies, Union leadership, etc.
, to ensure all are in support of overall strategy for Giant Food.
Essential Functions:
Collaborate with leadership and execute outlined transportation strategies and initiatives that support the Giant Food brand.
Support the implementation of strategies and defined business approaches within the transportation network that will align with overall goals and initiatives for Giant Food.
Manage the maintenance and preventive maintenance of a large fleet of both dry cargo and refrigerated assets.
Exhibiting strategic planning to grow a profitable back-haul program within the transportation network.
Responsible for oversight and adherence of the P&L for their operation that they supervise.
Oversight and compliance of Federal DOT regulatory policies.
Develop and manage transportation team to meet budgeted key performance metrics, which include, but are not limited to:
Safety, Federal DOT compliance, On-Time delivery, P&L metrics.
Payroll, Over Time, Staffing and Attrition, Cost per Mile, MPG, etc.
Responsible for the transportation team's culture and adherence to Associate Relations best practices and compliance within a union environment.
Responsible for relationship management, internal and external, of cross functional departments, associates, vendors, contractors, general public, union officials, as well as government and regulatory agencies.
Provide leadership that will motivate employees and function as an effective promoter of change and growth.
Foster a safe working environment with a focus on continuous improvement in safety practices, within DOT compliance.
Drive the implementation of a continuous improvement culture:
Implement changes to internal process and procedures for the functional area to streamline efficiencies and introduce savings opportunities.
Lead and/or serve as a member of key teams and committees as needed.
Responsible for the development, talent planning and performance management of the transportation associates.

Candidate
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in business administration or supply chain management8-10 years of work experience with emphasis on strong leadership, within a unionized environment.
The ability to lead in a fast-paced transportation network, that supports a multi-billion-dollar sales organization.
A strong knowledge of DOT compliance policies within a multi-state network.
Expertise in transportation management systems, engineered labor standards, and reporting software.

Experience with organizational change management and a strong comprehension in applying labor contract rules.
Highly detailed organizational skills, with the ability to quickly adapt to an ever-changing supply chain environment and provide comprehensive solutions to both short- and long-term obstacles.
