POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for developing and implementing job skills training and in-service education for the health care unit employees as required by WHS and DPSCS policies and state and federal regulations. Assures clinical competency of nursing staff through skill evaluation and coordinates continuing education.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assesses clinical staff competency through direct observation and skill evaluation.
2. Develops, implements and presents job skills training and in-service education, including CPR instruction, for health care unit employees as required by WHS and DPSCS policies and state and federal regulations.
3. Assesses effectiveness of existing and newly developed training programs and makes necessary revisions.
4. Assists with orientation and on-boarding for all new employees, including policies, procedures, and philosophy of care.
5. Keeps the Health Services Administrator and Director of Nursing informed of issues in a timely manner, including the submission of requested reports.
6. Actively participates in Wexford Health site meetings/committees when requested.
7. Actively participates in Wexford Health/Facility Quality Management Committees as requested.
8. Actively participates in site, region, and state-wide efforts to ensure compliance with national ACA and NCCHC standards necessary for accreditation efforts.
9. Follows up and tracks all annual training to ensure completion with contractual requirements.
10. Monitors and manages credentials to ensure all are maintained timely and appropriately.
11. Assists the DON and ADON in monthly nursing meetings and associated education.
12. Assists with interviewing/hiring of staff as needed or directed by the DON and ADON.
13. Ensures all necessary inmate worker education is completed as directed. 14. Conducts, monitors and reports on man down drills.
15. Accepts other nurse staffing assignments and performs other related duties as required or assigned by the DON/ADON. Performs within the normal limits of the State Nurse Practice Act, Code of Ethics for Nurses and Wexford Health and facility policies, procedures and standards.
16. Maintains the confidentiality of all correspondence and files.
17. Makes suggestions for improving work conditions. Approaches change in a positive manner.
18. Participates in in-service education.
19. Supports philosophy, objectives and goals of the health services unit. The duties and responsibilities outlined herein are for payroll purposes and are not all-inclusive; employees may be assigned other duties as required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: The following requirements list the minimum to qualify. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
LICENSING: Current, unrestricted Maryland Registered Nursing license
CERTIFICATION: Current CPR Certification. Valid CPR teaching certificate
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years clinical experience One (1) year of experience as an instructor/supervisor preferred Correctional experience a plus
EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited nursing school; BSN Preferred
OTHER PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of adult learning principles and training techniques Knowledge of state/federal regulations and requirements for accreditation Knowledge of state CME requirements Flexible, dependable, and reliable Strong interpersonal and presentation skills Strong verbal and written communication skills Demonstrated knowledge of and performance of nursing policies and procedures Ability to competently manage multiple priorities simultaneously Ability to work in a stressful environment Support philosophy, objectives and goals of the healthcare unit Assume individual accountability for own conduct and maintenance of professional appearance Must be able assist staff with various policies, administrative and organizational projects. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
